Prerequisites: This is your path to a career in Civil Design. This course is designed for those who are new to 12d Model, and it’s aimed at teaching you how to use 12d Model effectively, key terminology, and the fundamentals of design through the lens of a simple road design project. 12d Model Licence Agreement

Requirements: Dual monitors will be required so that the Trainer can be followed on one and the Course work can be done on the other. Alternatively, a second computer could also be used and projected to a screen or TV for viewing the Trainer.

For anyone wishing to acquire new competencies or maintain a certain proficiency, attending a one-off training course every now and then isn’t enough. Through a curated series of self-paced and continuous online training programs, we’ll help you stay up-to-date with current best practices and give you the resources to be at the forefront of your chosen field.

Course outline:

In the course, we go through creating a new project and how to navigate around the workspace using the menus, toolbars, and views.

We demonstrate how to create data, import data from external files, then create surfaces from that data which we then use as the basis for our road design.
For road design, we create reference string horizontal and vertical geometry, and create our road strings and cross-sections using that reference string. We talk about how we can assess our design using each of the Plan, Section, and Perspective views and also how we design in consideration of underground utilities.
From there we calculate the earthwork quantities for the construction of our road, as well as discuss strategies for making our entire design process as efficient as possible, primarily with the use of Chains.
Once we’ve completed the design, we finish by creating our long sections, cross-sections, and plan view plots, and show how to combine all of these together using Multipage Plots to plot an entire set of plans at the click of a button.
As you step through the course, there’ll be a quiz after each topic which tests your understanding of what was covered in that session; they’re just there to keep you on the right track.
